Yeah it’s really not at all as simple as you make it out to be. It shows a certain level of naivety to think that solutions to complex socio economic and engineering problems are so clear cut. It plays into everyone’s innate desire to seem smarter than the person in the next barstool, but it doesn’t do much for actually solving the problems. This is a multifaceted problem and calls for a multifaceted solution. “Just don’t live on the coast” is not a realistically viable answer, neither is “don’t burn any more fossil fuels” or “build more dykes” or “stronger roofs” or “homes on stilts” The real answer is all these things and more.
