To me this is kind of amazing to read. My experience has been completely the opposite. Most of the jobs I’ve been offered or asked to interview for are explicitly because I have 25+ years of experience.

There are a lot of companies out there that recognize that while youth has energy, age has wisdom and experience.

I am the lead senior engineer on a project right now where I have a team of mostly much younger developers working with me. I spend about 70% of my time mentoring the members of the team, steering the project and just generally trying to make sure we don’t make mistakes I already made elsewhere in my career. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had.
