…h the AI, you're right back to spending time (and money) on reviewing its list of sources yourself. You can use it as a shortcut to finding sources to research, but it's just as easy to go to hathitrust or archive.org and crack open an annotated bibliography on your subject. Or one of your local library's research databases. And when you do the research yourself, whether using an internet browser or a book, you know for certain what the source of each piece of information is.
I'm amused that you put "thorough" in the same sentence as "foolish" and "must take time".

I think you probably played with a few early iterations, but you have not worked with anything recently.

I’m so sorry. 

Welcome to the 21st century. Information retrieval has changed. We don’t go the the library any more and we have really really good tools to scan categorize indexes.
