This is kind of the answer to your broader question. There is an old saying “all politics is local” which means that people only care about things that directly impact them or people they know. The fact of the matter is that for many Americans they probably couldn’t even find these countries on a map and have no remote connection to anyone living there. Ukraine went through much the same thing but it fortunately had strong ties with Europe and does have some large expat population centers in the US and Canada. Israel has clear advantage here in that they have strong socioeconomic ties around the world and there are Jewish communities just about everywhere. It’s unfortunate in some regards but for the most part no one in the west really cares about most of Africa because it doesn’t impact them in any perceived way.
