This is deceptive it’s true but only in a very myopic way. While we don’t have the same tax collection scheme of TV licenses as the UK we do have a large patchwork of regulatory fees and taxes that get added on to all manner of media distribution from regulatory fees and taxes collected on top of cable tv and internet connections and similar fees in cellular and satellite service on top of that both public and private radio and tv broadcast stations pay license fees. So no, while we don’t have television licenses, unless someone lives without internet, a phone, cable, or a cell phone they are definitely paying the same taxes.
