The answer to your question is pretty easy I think. The reason I use Dropbox, the reason I tell other people to use Dropbox is precisely because the are NOT Google, Microsoft, Amazon or Apple. In an age of distrust of large tech companies being an outsider can be marketing gold. Aside from that, it works. It does one or two things and does them well.
