The answer to your question is fairly simply if you drop your preconceived and very incorrect ideas.

First separation of church and state is a very western and modern concept it is certainly not the norm historically or even now. Even the US biggest ally (UK) has an official state religion.

Second just because a religion might “set the moral standards” it doesn’t mean those standards are any good. Religion has been used as an justification for everything from slavery to genocide. Even today there are theocracies that kill citizens in horrific ways just for “blaspheme”.

With that context my question for you is why would you assume the Russian Orthodox Church would have any problems with these statements? The church has so far gladly supported this war that has killed thousands of people including women and children and sought to commit genocide of an entire culture.

Frankly it shouldn’t be a shock at all that the church would be fully supportive of letting the world starve.
