Sorry but this is the real problem. Parents shouldn’t need to help kids with their homework, at least not on a regular basis. I don’t pretend to know if this is a failing of parental practices or the education system but the very fact that a kid needs continuing help from an adult for work they should be completing themselves is actual problem, not the assignment of homework. And to be clear I hated homework as a child and even in college but homework is a necessary practice because it is necessary practice class time will never be sufficient
