Oh yes this is very much how things are working now. It’s been available on luxury cars for about 20 years but like all things it is trickling down to lower end cars. Old fobs yes they required you to push a button on the fob. But many new cars manufactured in last 10 to 15 years allow you to just keep the fob in your pocket or purse and will open the door and allow you to start it with just a push of a button (a button on the car) they have a range of 1 - 2 meters. For example my new suv does this. It unlocks when I walk up to it and if I walk up to the back hatch and just stand there for a little bit it will automatically unlock and raise the hatch. It’s designed to help you if your hands at full. The codes are encrypted and one time use so can’t just copy them so there is a level of security. But it is susceptible to this kind of attack.
