Null and undefined and their corresponding checks are just tools like every other language construct. Knowing when to use them or not use them is important but making blanket statements about avoiding them or not using them is like throwing away a tool in your toolbox it’s shortsighted and foolhardy at best at worst it will result in overly complicated, less understandable and more fragile code.
