No you are misinformed. They don’t “self destruct”. (That would be insane and dangerous) They deactivate. And they are meant to be picked up at a later date.

US and NATO supplied mines have 99.999999% deactivation rate meaning they fail to deactivate less than 0.000001% The Landmine Protocol of CCW allows for a 10% failure rate

Because of this, it’s not the Ukrainian mines you need to worry about, it is the Russian mines because they have never signed these treaties and their mines do not self deactivate.
