Maybe Let’s Just Repeal The 2nd Amendment
We are all thinking it, so I’ll just say it. Maybe it’s time we seriously talk about repealing the second amendment and replacing it with something else.
We’ve done it before, the 21st repealed the 18th Amendment which probably seemed like a good idea at the time but clearly was not in the interests of the vast majority of the country. Hell we’ve even directly altered the workings of the Constitution itself, not just amendments, with many of the other Amendments, including the 13th. So if we can do that, why can’t we ditch the 2nd Amendment? The thing is, we can, we just have to have the political willpower to do so.
The truth of the matter is that the writers of the Constitution did not get everything correct and straight up they got some things flat-out wrong. We know this and to their credit, they knew this and baked in a system so that future generations could patch it to fit the needs of society as time went by. It’s a brilliant system and one that has served us well. But… well let’s just admit that some of their ideas were at best half-baked.
We’ve already fixed many of them. The 12th, 17th, 20th, 22nd, and 25th all fixed major issues with how with elections shape our country. Some of these ideas should never even made it out of the constitutional convention. Others like the 13th, 15th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, and 26th…
