I’ve never completely understood what this fetishization of small businesses is, and why it exists. And let’s be clear that’s what it is. It’s a fetish or at least an abnormal fixation. Small businesses are not special. They must exist in the same competitive environment as all business. If they can’t they close. All small businesses would be big businesses if they could because businesses are in business to make money. Walmart started as a single general goods store. Amazon started as a small online book retailer. If a store, no matter, its size can’t be managed properly to either find a niche or attract customers in some other way then it doesn’t deserve to exist. No business just deserves to exist. (That’s communism) A business has to provide value of some kind to its customers in order to justify its existence. That is what a free market is, the same free market that allowed the business to start in the first place.
