It really wouldn’t be fair to call it the American war in Vietnam. Just like you wouldn’t call it the Chinese war in Vietnam. Proxy wars are funny like that but also it’s disingenuous to the Vietnamese that fought on both sides. Besides the French had much more to do with how the entire thing started than anyone else.
