Well it depends I’m still using my almost 10 year old 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. It’s just as fast as it ever did. Granted when I bought it,it was the top of the line. The only reason I’ll be upgrading this year is because Apple no longer supports it and the M1/2 processors are much faster.
