I had a similar experience. I wrote and wrote rather inconsistently and then just randomly one of my articles blew up. Within just a few days I had 10x as many followers and that article earned me 10x more in the first month than I’ve made on Medium with all my other articles combined . This has encouraged me to keep on going and writing new articles because you never know when one will hit and resonate with readers
