I 100% agree.. As an OG HTML and Javascript developer in the 90s (before we even had jQuery) I have increasingly been befuddled by the level of completely unnecessary abstractions that have been layered onto it. New developers don't even bother understanding the underlying simplicity of HTML, CSS, and Javascript before latching onto these frameworsts.
