Don’t worry. Language is just language but heritage, culture, these are different and stronger. Everyone in the Americas that speaks Spanish, English, or Portuguese “natively” definitely does not even think twice about being Spanish, English, or Portuguese.

You sound a lot like my girlfriend but her English is very limited. I started learning Russian 5 years ago to talk with her but switched to Ukrainian over 2 years ago. Starting over has been difficult to say the least.
