Chomsky’s ideas are the themselves the worst kind of repressive ideology. To accept them you first must accept the presupposed and completely objectionable idea that in order for a nation to coalesce to a majority opinion the masses must be told what to think. That is to say Chomsky cannot conceive of a world where the majority of the normal citizens find the destruction of democratic nations, freedom of religion or genocide objectionable and worth fighting over without being told by some “elites” to think this way. While there will always be propaganda especially in times of war, nations with freedom of speech and the press will always allow dissenters a voice. It is exactly this that is the cornerstone of what is being fought for in all the conflicts mentioned. To claim that the willingness of a nation to go to war to support these ideals is only result of elite propaganda is a shockingly repressive idea and perhaps reveals Chomsky’s love of authoritarianism and distaste for citizens.
