Because they have been manipulated by pro-Russian media which is supported by the Kremlin because it supports and encouraged the Hamas attack on Israel as a distraction for the west in the hopes that it would divide and distract western politics and foreign policy toward Ukraine.

Russia and Wagner have followed the same playbook in Israel as they have across central Africa, supporting groups that oppose western democracy regardless of ideology or religion because ideology and religion are irrelevant to an authoritarian state so long as the outcome supports the end goal of increasing the power and wealth of the dictator and those that surround him.

This is why you see Russian support for far right and far left groups, as well as fighting Islamic groups in Syria while supporting them in west Africa. Political and religious ideology are meaningless and just a red herring designed to distract governments and people while authoritarians expand their power and wealth at the cost of lives that are not their own.
