As a software engineer that has worked in many industries healthcare, education, advertising, finance, media, manufacturing and aerospace this is very true. I have learned more than a ever cared to about all of these businesses. Sometimes it’s better not to know how the sausage is made. One small detail that is important, software developers only need know this information for a brief period of time. That is the time it takes to translate the knowledge from an SME into working code. I imagine most developers don’t remember details the way an SME would much beyond the end of a given project.
