Any time I’ve ever cycled around the city I go out of my way to avoid the busiest streets. Usually however it is easy as there is almost always a quiet side street that runs parallel. It’s just common sense. Cyclist sharing main roads with cars when there are purpose built paths for them mere meters away is a whole other level of stupid. (Stupidity I have seen first hand.) I feel no sympathy for a cyclist that would get injured or killed in that type of scenario. If society has decided to spend the resources to provide isolated paths to protect you from multi ton vehicles that could squash you like bug and you refuse to use them that’s entirely on you.
